1. Who we are
IPMitra (“IPMitra”, “we”, “us”) operates the website ipmitraindia.com, a digital platform and information portal on trademarks, copyright, industrial designs and related intellectual property matters in India. For the personal data described in this policy, IPMitra is the Data Fiduciary under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”).
2. Personal data we collect
Data you give us through enquiry forms
| Data | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| WhatsApp mobile number | To send you the information you requested and to contact you about your enquiry. |
| Brand, work or product name | To understand what your enquiry is about. |
| Short description you write | To understand your goods, services or work and respond accurately. |
| Area and topic you select (for example, “Trademark — Application filing”) | To route your enquiry and send relevant information. |
| Consent record (that you ticked the consent box, the notice version and the date and time) | To show that consent was given, as required by law. |
Some of our tools also ask for a business description or applicant type to show results such as suggested trademark classes or fee estimates. If you choose to submit those results to receive a report, the same purposes and rights in this policy apply.
Please do not include sensitive personal information, or confidential business information you are not ready to share, in free-text fields.
Data from WhatsApp conversations
If you message us on WhatsApp, we receive your WhatsApp number, your profile name and the messages and files you send, and use them to respond to you.
Technical data
When you visit the website, our hosting provider automatically processes technical data such as your IP address, browser and device type and the pages requested, to deliver the website and protect it against misuse. The website loads fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google's servers.
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. The website stores a single setting in your browser's session storage to remember that you closed the disclaimer notice; it is deleted when you close the browser tab.
3. Why we use your personal data
We use personal data only for these specific purposes:
- to respond to your enquiry and send you the information you requested on WhatsApp;
- to follow up on that same enquiry, if needed;
- to keep a record of enquiries and of the consent you gave;
- to operate, secure and maintain the website; and
- to comply with legal obligations.
We will not use your data for any other purpose, such as promotional messages, without first asking for your separate consent.
4. Legal basis
We process the personal data you submit through our forms on the basis of your consent under Section 6 of the DPDP Act, which you give by ticking the consent box before submitting. Consent is optional, but we cannot respond to a form enquiry without it. Limited processing may also take place for legitimate uses permitted under Section 7 of the DPDP Act, such as complying with a law or a court order.
6. Processing outside India
Some of these service providers may process data on servers located outside India. Section 16 of the DPDP Act permits this, except to countries the Central Government restricts by notification. We will not transfer personal data to any such restricted country.
7. How long we keep it
We keep enquiry data only for as long as needed to respond to and follow up on your enquiry. We erase it when that purpose is served or when you withdraw consent, whichever is earlier, unless we must keep it longer to comply with law. Certain records, such as logs of processing, may be kept for the minimum period required under applicable law, including the DPDP Rules, 2025.
8. Your rights
Under the DPDP Act, you have the right to:
- Access information about the personal data we process about you, the processing activities, and the Data Processors it has been shared with (Section 11);
- Correction, completion, updating and erasure of your personal data (Section 12);
- Grievance redressal for any act or omission relating to your personal data (Section 13); and
- Nominate another person to exercise your rights in the event of your death or incapacity (Section 14).
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected] or message us on WhatsApp at +91 85900 04502. We may need to verify your identity, usually by confirming the WhatsApp number you used.
9. Withdrawing consent
You can withdraw consent at any time, as easily as you gave it:
- reply STOP on WhatsApp to the number that contacted you, or to +91 85900 04502; or
- email [email protected].
Once you withdraw consent, we will stop processing your data for these purposes and erase it within a reasonable time, unless the law requires us to keep it. Withdrawal does not affect processing that took place before it.
10. Grievances and complaints
If you have a concern about how your personal data is handled, please contact us first by email at [email protected] or on WhatsApp at +91 85900 04502. We will respond within the period prescribed under the DPDP Rules, 2025, which is not more than 90 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may file a complaint with the Data Protection Board of India.
11. Children
This website and its enquiry forms are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. Under Section 9 of the DPDP Act, processing a child's personal data requires verifiable consent from a parent or lawful guardian. If you believe a child has submitted personal data, please contact us and we will erase it.
12. Security
We take reasonable security safeguards to protect personal data against breach, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections and access controls on the services we use. If a personal data breach occurs, we will inform affected individuals and the Data Protection Board of India as required by the DPDP Act and the DPDP Rules, 2025.
13. Your duties
Section 15 of the DPDP Act requires you to provide accurate information, not to impersonate anyone, and not to file false or frivolous grievances or complaints.
14. Nature of this platform
IPMitra is a digital platform and information portal. Submitting an enquiry does not constitute legal advice and does not create an advocate-client relationship. Information you choose to submit is provided voluntarily.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date and notice version at the top show when it was last changed. If a change affects how we use data you have already given us, we will ask for your consent again where the law requires.
16. Contact for privacy requests and grievances
